Oracle Server Restore

Choose from time-based recovery or complete recovery options to restore your Oracle database.

The Oracle server Restore feature allows you to restore your Oracle server databases from your IDrive account.

Requirements for restore
  • Install the IDrive application on the computer where the Oracle 9i/10g server/client is available
  • The 'IDOracleBackup' folder selected for restore should be in the same path as it was while performing the backup operation
  • The database must be in ARCHIVELOG Mode
  • The Oracle server user should have SYSDBA privilege
  • Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) should be available on the computer where the IDrive application has been installed

Consult your Oracle DBA before you perform the Oracle server restore operation.

Enabling ARCHIVELOG Mode

To enable ARCHIVELOG Mode using Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN), follow the steps given below:

  • RMAN> connect target <username>/<PWD>@<SID> [connect to your Oracle database];
  • RMAN> shutdown immediate;
  • RMAN> startup mount;
  • RMAN> sql 'alter database archivelog';
  • RMAN> alter database open;
To restore your Oracle database,
  1. Sign in to the IDrive application and click 'Restore'.
  2. Select 'Online Restore', or 'Local Restore', or 'IDrive Express™ Restore'.
  3. Locate and select the 'IDORACLEBackup' folder in your IDrive® account or local drive.

    Note: If 'Local Restore' is selected, you can choose the required version from the 'Version' list.

  4. Click 'Restore Now', to restore the 'IDOracleBackup' folder to the local computer.
    Note: The 'IDORACLEBackup' folder selected for restore should be in the same path as it was while performing the backup operation.
  5. Once the folder has been successfully restored, click 'Server Backup'. A slider menu will appear.
  6. Click 'Oracle'. The Oracle connection screen appears.
  7. Click 'Oracle restore'.
  8. Provide the relevant Oracle server authentication information when prompted. Click 'Login to Oracle Server'.
  9. The 'Oracle Server backup/restore' screen is displayed.
  10. Browse and select the 'IDORACLEBackup' folder (restored earlier from your IDrive account or local drive).
  11. Select the database(s) you want to restore to your Oracle server.
  12. Click 'Restore'.
